Installing Node.js and Grunt Yosemite

What? What is Node? What is Grunt?

node.js allows you to run javascript in the Terminal as appose to a regular browser which aids in workflow for web development, with node.js installed an a package manager called npm (Node Package Manager) is also installed which can manage other packages that utilize node.js, one of the main ones being grunt.js for web development.

For Yosemite, you’ll install these like so.

Head over to https://nodejs.org/ Download the latest package.

Download the Package:

osx-yosemite-nodejs

Run The Installer:

osx-yosemite-nodejs-install

At the end, Node will prompt you to make sure that /usr/local/bin is in your path, double check you have it by running in the Terminal:

Then Run:

If you get this…

Attempt to unlock /usr/local/lib/node_modules/grunt-cli, which hasn’t been locked

Run This:

If that doesn’t work then:

Ad re-Run:

It will prompt you for your password, upon submitting your password you should see this:

/usr/local/bin/grunt -> /usr/local/lib/node_modules/grunt-cli/bin/grunt
grunt-cli@0.1.13 /usr/local/lib/node_modules/grunt-cli
├── resolve@0.3.1
├── nopt@1.0.10 (abbrev@1.0.5)
└── findup-sync@0.1.3 (lodash@2.4.1, glob@3.2.11)

Success!
