1. Discovery Phase
Before we begin, I need to get to know you or your company, and what you’re hoping to accomplish with your project. The first step in my getting acquainted phase is having you complete a quick (and totally painless) design questionnaire. You’ll fill out an online form and I’ll give your answers a thorough look-over.
By this point, we’ll probably both have our share of questions for one another, so I like to schedule either an in-person meeting (if you’re local), a chat on the phone, or a virtual meeting via Skype. We’ll go over your questionnaire, any questions or concerns you might have, and we’ll go over your project in greater detail.
2. The Project Proposal
I’ll whip together a project proposal based on the questionnaire and our initial meeting. This super-important document will contain a detailed outline of the services I’ll be providing, the scope of your project to-be, and, of course, how much it’s all going to cost you.
Sign it, submit your 50% down payment (for first time customers), and we’re ready to roll!
3. The Rules
This is the least favorite part of my job: the legal stuff. I’ll spend some time working on a contract for your project which will outline things like payment terms, project closure clauses, copyright and ownership information, and termination clauses.
Once we both sign off on this, the real fun ensues–your project begins!
4. Gathering Content
At this point in the process, you’ve got some work to do. As the client, your job is to provide me with all of the necessary content to get my job done. Depending on the type of project we’re working on, I’ll need things like logos, copy, photos, or graphics you’d like to include.
5. The First Draft
I brainstorm, doodle, take a coffee break, sketch, scribble, take a stroll with my pup, research, and ponder.
After a bit of time has passed, something awesome happens: I’ll come up with a great idea. I’ll tinker with that idea until I’m 110% happy and in love with my creation. Crossing my fingers that you’ll love it too, I’ll share my preliminary design with you in the form of a PDF or demo website.
So maybe you weren’t quite as in love with my design as I was, and that’s okay! I include up to three rounds of revisions with every project at no additional cost, so now is the perfect time to tell me things like “hold off on the purple,” or “I’m so not loving that font you chose.” You won’t hurt my feelings, I promise.
We’ll go back and forth with revisions until your project is looking spiffy and it’s something you’re proud to call your own.
7. Project Launch
You’re in love with the finished product? Wahoo! Now it’s time to wrap up it all up.
I’ll prepare any necessary files to hand off, I’ll launch your website, I’ll send your project to print–you name it, and I’ll take care of it!
Once we’ve tied up any remaining loose ends, I’ll send you a project sign off and a final invoice, due within 30 days of project completion.
